California Judicial Doesn't Recognize SCOTUS
California retiree prepares for second Supreme Court battle
In 2024, the Supreme Court unanimously ruled that governments can’t hold building permits hostage to extract fees that go beyond the actual impact of a project. It was a landmark victory for PLF client George Sheetz, who had been forced to pay more than $23,000 in “traffic impact fees” just to build his home.
But a California appeals court recently revived the very rule the Supreme Court struck down—and the California Supreme Court quietly buried the decision rather than fix it. Now George is asking the Supreme Court to step in and help restore his rights once again.
