Gold Panners for El Dorado State,
Thank you for joining our movement to Leave California NOT El Dorado!!! This month, on the 24th, marks the start of our 3rd year. We’ve made a lot of progress, not as much as we’d like, but we’re still vital and kicking and making future plans. Each day feels like a new beginning!!
Next month is the County Fair, June 12 - 15. Our emphasis will be on our new Flag. We will need volunteers to man the booth for 2-hour shifts or more on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. Friday will be covered by the Georgetown Concerned Citizens group who also gave a welcome and large donation toward the event. We sure would like other groups to join us with our efforts, so if you’re a part of a group who would like to participate, or just a single person, please notify me below and/or come to our May meeting.
What holds many of us back is that feeling of not being confident of how to answer questions about HOW we plan to make El Dorado into a State. If Jefferson couldn’t do it, how do we expect we can? We expect we can because we learned from Jefferson what NOT TO DO and we have history that has laid the groundwork if we but listen and follow the examples given us.
From my own experience I can say that the best way to be able to talk about how we plan to make El Dorado County a STATE is to work the fair. That may seem strange if you’ve never done it, but you’ll get to hear the repetitious reasons why making one county a state will work, and you then begin to learn what to say when asked questions. We all have to go through this at some point and working the fair, even for only 2 hours, will boost your confidence in how to answer questions that in return builds your own energy and enthusiasm for our cause so that when the fair is over, you want to continue to reach out to your community with this new confidence because the overwhelming positive feed-back you get becomes contagious.
I went out today with my “Don’t California My El Dorado State” shirt on because with the nice weather I could wear it without a jacket, and I got so many positive likes and questions that it made me feel like singing…..YES, WE CAN DO THIS!!
This month our meeting is on May 15, 6:15pm, Rescue Community Center, 4180 Green Valley Road….look for our sign in front. Nora and Allen serve the very best and juicy hot dogs with all the trimmins’ and we bring potluck or brown bag your own while we get better acquainted and just enjoy each other’s company until 7:00 when we get down to business. Or, come at 6:00 and help set-up.
This month Ray Nutting has a report on more on the county budget and his talk at the Farm Bureau dinner.
